The Herd Golf came to us as a blank page — a new golf brand with a clear point of view but no identity, no store, and no way to sell yet. The vision was bigger than a merch line: golf apparel and gear, but built around family-friendly golf events and a sense of community. Our job was to take that idea and give it a name, a look, and a real place to live and sell.

The challenge

Starting from zero is its own kind of hard. There’s no existing brand to refine, no site to improve — just an idea and the pressure to get the foundation right the first time. The Herd needed everything at once: a brand identity that felt like a community rather than a logo, an online store that could actually sell, and a fulfillment setup that wouldn’t require them to buy and warehouse inventory before they’d sold a single hat.

They also didn’t want a cookie-cutter store. The brand had personality, and a stock Shopify theme wasn’t going to carry it.

What we did

Brand identity. We built the brand from the ground up — name, visual identity, and the tone that ties the apparel and the events together. The through-line was community: “the herd” is the people, not just the product.

A headless storefront. Rather than a standard Shopify theme, we built the store headless using Shopify Hydrogen — Shopify’s React framework for custom storefronts — deployed on Vercel. That gave The Herd a fast, fully custom shopping experience with complete control over design and performance, while keeping Shopify’s checkout and commerce engine underneath.

Print-on-demand fulfillment. We integrated both Printful and Printify so merch is produced and shipped on demand. No inventory to buy up front, no boxes in a garage — an order comes in, it gets printed and shipped automatically. That let The Herd launch a full apparel line with almost no upfront risk.

The outcome

The Herd Golf launched as a complete, working brand: a custom headless store, a merch line ready to sell, and a fulfillment pipeline that runs itself — plus an identity built to grow alongside the events side of the business. From an idea to a live business, end to end.
